Jesus is worth following because of the truths outlined below, which are the historical and theological foundations of the Christian faith.
God is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
The only true and eternal God exists in three persons--Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. These three are all divine in essence, but distinct in person and function.
Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 43:10, 46:9; Matthew 3:16-17, 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14
Jesus is Fully God and Fully Man
"He [Jesus] is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power" (Hebrews 1:3).
"Though he [Jesus] was in the form of God, [he] did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross" (Philippians 2:6-8).
As eternal God, Christ was a sufficient sacrifice to pay the penalty for the sins of the whole world. As carnal man, Christ served as a substitutionary sacrifice on man's behalf and continues to serve as the mediator between God and man.
Jesus was Born of a Virgin and Lived a Sinless Life
Jesus was supernaturally conceived within and born of the virgin Mary. Because he was born of a virgin, Jesus did not inherit the sinful nature of Adam. Jesus was born without sin, and lived a sinless life, making him an acceptable sacrifice to pay for the sins of man.
Genesis 3:15; Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23; Hebrews 4:15
Jesus Physically Rose from the Dead and Will Physically Return to Establish His Kingdom on Earth
"If Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain . . . And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins" (1 Corinthians 15:14,17).
"But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells" (2 Peter 3:13).
John 14:3; 2 Thessalonians 2:1-4; Revelation 21-22
Eternal Life is through Jesus Alone
Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6).
"There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12).
Eternal Life is a Gift Given by God's Grace, Received through Faith
"By grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast" (Ephesians 2:8-9).
The Bible is Our Ultimate Guide for Knowing & Following Jesus
"He [Jesus] interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself" (Luke 24:27).
A life of following Jesus is a life that is rooted in the truth of God's Word--because all of God's Word points us to Jesus.
2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:19-21
